- Well.....Well...Well
When beginning this program I came in thinking this would be easy but in reality its not....Trying to get someone else to change takes a lot of hard work and ongoing communication. My Implementation plan started off with making sure the students have the materials needed for school but now looking at the bigger picture I sort of understand why our students don't have materials and that is due to the funding problem. Which should not be a problem since each school get a budget plan. Like the real question is where is the funding actually going and why is is not going toward things that our children can benefit form.
- ITS GETTING OLD
Being a substuitue teacher has allowed me to see somethings and i must say I give it to any full time teacher working full time at a school day in and day out to make sure the future children of America have a decent way of learning. But some of these children don't wont to learn and the ones that do cant because the ones that don't are disrupting the class making it difficult for the teacher to teach. In my opinion there needs to be some kind of change before its too late. Our children need help and honestly me as a sub looking in its going to take more than just me to implement the changes that are needed to make sure the process goes as planned. At this point I'm tired as a sub so i can only imagine how the full-time teachers feel. I know some people think its funny when I express that I need a mental break because being in these classrooms now will make you go there but in reality teachers need mental breaks from these kids because no changes are being done not from the children themselves, the parents who know these children act this way, the BOE who is not looking into why teachers are leaving the district. Its a mess. These are just my thoughts and damn it Ms. King is tired.
- No more off Track !!! Week 5-8
After viewing all 3 videos for this week I have come to the realizations that sabotage indicates that a self-differentiated leader is actually doing a good job. It seems like every time you try to do something to better yourself as a person/leader here comes a hater telling you how they don't think its a good idea to do what it is you think needs to be done. Which helps if you come up with a strategy that will help you avoid from getting trapped or stuck in a negative whirlwind. Having a strategy is important when trying to have a crucial conversation so you wont fall into bs nor get off track from what your really trying to do and accomplish. Having a crucial conversation can be hard for some yet beneficial for others. Thinking about a crucial conversation gets you nerves just by the sound of it but truthfully these conversations are needed not only in daily relationships with friends and family but also within the the work environment. - 4 Disciplines of Execution
Getting into and trying to learn what’s important when it comes to my organization and what I feel can better us as a team has become a great challenge for me because the organization, I’m apart of would like to make changes but have no sense of direction nor do they have a leader in place to help push to goals that will help us. At this point we are stuck in a whirlwind especially with everyone having their own issues its hard to focus on other issues that come up. The WHIRLWIND is the real work, the work that will have you so busy you tend to forget what’s really important (Goals). The whirlwind reminds me of a trapped door you go in and then your stuck just like that with no way out because forces are being thrown at you left and right and eventually, you’ll spiral out of control. When it comes to goals and what you should be focusing on it is best to focus on ONE to TWO goals at a time But in order to get the real results you are looking for its best to focus on just that one goal the WIG being able to focus on one goal at a time will help stay out of the whirlwind because you can have a clear mind and be able to stay focus on what you are trying to accomplish within that goal. Staying on track (Lead Measure) while not falling behind (Lag Measure). References McChesney , C. (n.d.). The 4 disciplines of execution in a nutshell - youtube. - There's a difference in Change Kids vs Adults
Discussion Influence Strategy This week discussion was based on the 6 sources of Influence, in the videos watched this week I’ve learned a little bit more about influences. Based on both videos watched I’ve learned there’s a huge difference when getting kids to change and when getting adults to start making change. In the first video All Washed up the kids were so distracted once the cupcakes were brought in majority of them didn’t follow directions. Now the instructor gave very detailed instructions, but the kids only saw and heard what they wanted because now the cupcakes had their attention. The children ranged in different age groups but where old enough to know that after putting the puzzle together to use sanitizer before getting a cupcake. The key to change is using all 6 sources of influences but only 4 was used in “All Washed Up” Those 4 influences included Personal Motivation, Change environment, Deliberate Practice and Peer Pressure (Social Influence). After thinking back to when I was once a child my mind was never just set on one thing, I had this to do and that to do and my attention span was very short. I remember having to be told over and over to do something just like the children in the video. The reason only 4 of the 6 Influences were used in my opinion is because children have short attention spans. Just to even get them to get quiet in a classroom setting can be difficult. But when you give personal motivation to something related to the topic at hand or changing the environment for the child something that more exciting than what their used to, practicing the new change more than once and of course letting other students who have a positive look on change influence the other children you could and would get better results just by connecting with the student on a different level. Towards the end of the video a sign was put up about using the sanitizer and just by one student reading the sign and used the sanitizer the other children followed suit. Change doesn’t happen over night but continue to work on it will get you one step closer to changing it takes time. Resources https://youtu.be/osUwukXSd0k
- What is your Why? Assignment 1 (5304)
What is Your Why? Blended Learning Assignment 1 Part A: Why? To Inspire our learners that other ways of learning can help them succeed. How? We create a learning environment each student can be comfortable in, when it comes to learning. What? We get others to get on board to help prepare students for change. Part B: Heart of Change The Statement “To Inspire our learners so that other ways of learning can help them succeed” is an inspiring message within itself. As a parent as well as an educator our students right now are having it harder than ever, and the traditional learning method is just not pushing the learners to the levels that they should be on when it comes to their learning. It’s really happening in lower income school districts because majority of the schools are not equipped with the correct materials needed for the students. Since I am an associate teacher, I’m able to go to different schools within my district. I’ve been to a total of 5 and I must say they all are suffering with the same problems, lack of school student success rates not just on standardized test but in their basic studies, their everyday learning. In order to get our students on a successful level in their education we must work together to get it done. If we don’t do it then who will? And how will change begin within our school system? - Are you willing to change? (Class 5304)
After watching the Three myths of behavior change and realizing that all along that common sense actually does not contribute to anything. Common sense makes no sense at all and matter of fact its rather confusing trying to make it make sense you will definitely be confused while being trapped in a fixed mindset. In order to get out of a fixed mindset you have to be willing to make sacrifices to help you make those changes by stepping outside the box. Not doing the expected but the unexpected giving others information that will inspire them to want to do better, keeping them motivated in the process, be able to give them real life experiences that maybe they can connect with that brings value to why change is needed. Then we can get better results when it comes to making change with Social Interaction on a positive level. When it comes to my innovation plan and getting the leaders in my school district to try implementing Blended Learning into our now curriculum most likely will be a challenge but with the help of the 6 sources of influences can be a great start to changing the system and them as well. First beginning with the self...during this pandemic we as people have been faced with so much life and death situations that some of us don't know if we are coming or going but with the 6 sources of influences it will help build back personal ability/motivation, social ability/motivation and structural ability/motivation which are all the things that are needed to help promote change in not only the self but the things around you which will eventually promote change in the educational system. - What is really going on.....
Looks like we need help in ALL school districts. Covid is on the rise, teachers are getting sick and its hard to find sub teachers that want to deal with this generation of children. Its a huge mess with the educational system now. There is no structure..... I ask myself daily will there ever be change for these children or will we continue to let this happen. I over heard a parent express how their childs teacher has not been back to the school and they have no clue what's going on at the school. In my opinion based on personal experience with some of these schools they aren't sending the parents any updates of the teachers or the students because its all about the money that the school is not seeing. Its crazy for real but this is the type of society we are apart of just sad.
- Capture the HEART 5304
The head won't go where the heart hasn't been..... After viewing this weeks videos I have come to realize that in order to captures one attention in trying to get them to change is not feeding them information because half the time people already know that part because others have already talked with them on the issue at hand. Hell they are tired of you going on and on about what they need to do and HOW you think they should go about doing it. This crap is not working and in order to change or make changes you have to captures ones heart. Starting with WHY... majority of the time people already have a feeling they need to change or make changes but don't really know how to change and will most likely need a push of motivation to get them started. Then you have others who just wake up and say today I'm gonna change and just do it. Growing up I've always been told to think with my brain (mind) not my heart because your heart can lead you down some tough roads (traditional way). In all honesty the heart can to but with the heart its different the heart feels pain, emotions, and other heartfelt things that tugs at that organ and once something tugs people at the heart they crave change. They will go above and beyond for that change crazy how something so dramatic has to happen for change to happen. In the video How to Change People Who Don't Want to Change by The Behavioral Science Guys stuck out to me the most. Now everyday we see adults smoking they already know smoking tobacco is indeed bad for them but they don't care because them smoking does not affect others. But then when these same adults see children under 12 doing it now its bad and something they shouldn't be doing weird right I thought so to. Seeing those kids smoking tugged at those adult smokers hearts (emotional) and now they became the informational givers and right there the roles where switched. - Out with the OLD in with the NEW intro to 5304
Its 2022 and we got things to do like passing these classes and graduating so we can go out a teach others. This is my fourth class for ADL (second semester). Houston is where I reside, eating is still one of my favorite hobbies but I've also picked back up on my reading which I think is great especially after reading this courses syllabus (lol) . I am excited about getting back in the swing of things and expanded what I have already learned in my previous courses while continuing to build my portfolio and making it better. Moving on to this next class I'm excited yet nervous due to the workload but I know for a fact if i put myself on an organized schedule anything is possible for me to achieve and plus this semester IM READY FOR CHANGE.... Stay tuned its about to get real pretty up in here
- Wrapping It Up
Today is officially the last day for course 5303 I have really enjoyed the course. Since this course was more of like a refresher class on hoe to better your Eportfolio I took it as I was giving another chance to make me portfolio better than it was from my first two courses. Be apart of a learning community has really allowed me to be myself with opening up about thing I don't know or maybe have questions about. Dr. H was right you can not and will not be able to get through this program successful without a learning community. People that you can call, email, text, about what happened in class or if any assignments/ future assignments they can assist you with that. At this point I am just happy I was able to make a connection with likeminded individuals who want to go above and beyond to help the children of our future. Because the honestly need us. So glad its about to be Christmas Break because i need one. I started a count down til today now my other countdown is for when me waking up early just to be a work and deal with other people children cause MS.KING is officially tired. I hope you enjoyed my post this semester see you in January unless something juicy happens while I'm on break
- It’s almost over!!!
It seems like classes just started and here I am at the end of the semester Woooow I made it. Never did I think I would really be in school. I smh at myself daily. Because trying to maintain being a parent, holding on to several jobs, having a business, and going to school has been tough but this semester classes where what I needed in order to take it slow. I was able to catch up on other work and have it turned In on time. To be honest I needed this…..a class where I could move as slow as i needed to finall move at my own pace.
