- As time comes to an end......
This is the last week of school and I am holding on by a string of hope...my mind have been all over the place lately even with the final papers and discussion due I'm just like I need to finish everything for both of my classes asap so I can at least have a mini vacation of 3 days before the next classes begin on Monday. Which I am somewhat prepared but not fully
- We Need A Change...... Class 5305
After reading the article by Nielsen and going over the reading in class. I realized I am indeed an innovative educator. I say this because I love to inspire my 3rd graders with real life situations. I try my best to do certain things on their level because at the end of the day they’re still children and have to be taught on their level. I think that is where most teachers go wrong and especially with this current generation. Yes, I get it these children act grown BUT overall looking we don’t know what these kids are facing on the daily. Some students go to school to get a break for what is going on at home, school is their safety note and we as teachers need to make them feel as comfortable as possible when it comes to how they learn and apply real life situations to their daily school life. Something we as teachers have to remember. Change is definitely a process. Change begins with us as teachers since administration put everything on the teachers anyway.
- I Am Change....Class 5305
Being Kind...... On a daily basis I come in contact with so many people no matter who they are I try my best to get a smile out of them. Because truthfully you don't know what others are going through in their daily life. We all have issues some worse than others and too wake up each day with what I have. I am grateful and love to share happiness with others. A kind word means a lot when you feel like your back is against the wall and you just need a way out. When you give or present yourself as kind, the majority of the time people flock to you because they love the energy that you give off and when you give kind words or words of encouragement your message will target your audience's heart because they too will know you actually care and now you have gained their trust. Sometimes all people need is someone they can trust, someone who will not judge them by their mistakes because we all make mistakes, Just accepting people for who they are and not trying to give them you opinion all the time.
- What is Innovate? Class 5305
To be honest learning from the examples given in the videos lets me know the school district itself is so far behind and not up to date with material equipt for our students who are a part of the 21st Century. Right now this is our downfall and I have to say our because we all are a part of the school system and we see this happening every school year and havent said anything about the matter at hand. When it comes to having flexibility and being flexible I’m all for it. I would rather it be that way anyway because it's a lot more freedom to be able to help your students be more successful instead of giving them the traditional way of learning. We are learning day by day as educators that the traditional way is no longer working for new generations of students. This is one of the main reasons why we need to implement blended learning into each and every classroom. The school I’m currently at I do believe will be flexible about adding blended learning to their current curriculum because as of now our school is lacking teachers due to this pandemic and difficulty of hiring teachers so at this point any new way of learning and education for students.
- COVA Framework Class 5302
Where is your voice? After reviewing articles and videos concerning changing from traditional learning to COVA which entails giving the students a choice of freedom when it comes to how they are learning and using the information given. The biggest challenge I believe we will face as we integrate COVA into the learning process will be the voices of the students. This will be rather hard for our students who are indeed nervous about raising their hands in class and using their voice to express how they feel. Or have a question. Looking back when i was in grade school many of my teachers would out right tell me the answer was wrong which caused me not to want to raise my hand in class which also hindered me from saying anything. We as teachers must learn the effect we have on students, the things we say can either help the students by encouraging them to move forward or dismiss them all together which will cause them to not want to move forward. If we practice giving them their voice now they will know how to operate in the real world and not be ashamed to ask questions because no question is stupid
- Impact of Growth Mindset 5302
At this point in my life, I consider to be and choose to have a growth mindset. Don’t get me wrong with having a growth mindset you can fall short. I have done it several times but realizing and recognizing that there was indeed a problem I decided it was best to figure out a way to solve the problem rather than let it just stay the same and not doing anything about it. After covering the readings and videos for this week I have a better understanding on how to get students to perform well in their studies and that is through encouraging them and unlocking their learning ability. Not allowing them to get into a fixed mindset by continuing to praise them for every little thing. I feel every student is capable of learning and having the growth mindset especially if they have a teacher who is willing to take their time and help those students in need of help instead of blaming the students for the way they learn.
- Growth Mindset 5302
Yet is an open mindset, not being restricted to a fixed mindset. Brooding your ability to learn new things that you knew nothing about but after having an open mindset you are able to take in what new things you have just learned. Adopting to the growth mindset will cause (me) to have the ability to learn more and want to learn more by changing the thinking process. When having a growth mind set you steady ask questions because you want to know and learn new techniques and tools to help you understand what it is that you are asking and trying to accomplish. Having this type of mindset can change how you ask and respond to others. The growth mindset is suitable for all ages. It can and will definitely help my kinder class. Getting the littles to understand can be difficult at first but doing and improving the students daily can have a huge impact on the way they learn on a daily basis. The growth mindset creates confidence and persistence. To learn more about the growth mindset process I would use resources like google, YouTube, just do an overall internet search along with getting books about the growth mind set to get a better understanding for myself and how to help my students understand that change is good. Comparing the fixed mind set to the growth mind set based off the graphic below you can tell right off that the person with the fixed mind set rather not try to fix or solve problems. When this person is faced with challenges and different obstacles they don’t do well and will most likely give up before even trying. On the other hand the person with the growth mindset is ready for different challenges, ready to learn and excel in new learning objectives. Brain is active and ready for new things to learn and accomplish
- Class 5302 Introduction
Hello Everyone, My name is Eddricka King from Houston Texas. I have so many hobbies but my favorite one has to be reading and exploring new eating places. Yes, I love to eat. I have a job just for food lol. My personal interest related to digital learning came around the beginning of the pandemic I realized by working in the school system we meaning the entire school system were not mentally prepared for schools to participate in online learning. Because its not taught til you reach college. This has been a huge eye opener on how students are taught. I'm interested in learning how to better my self with digital tech in the education field so that i can use what i have learned apply it to my daily work as well as one day educating others in my field how much digital learning plays a major roll in all education not just higher education
- The Benefit of Networking Class 5302
There are so many benefits when it comes to networking….Upon entering the digital learning graduate program, I said to myself….self how are we going to make it through this program with such a hectic schedule? Fortunately I'm truly grateful to be able to form PNLs with other colleagues in my current field which has been a major help. Since becoming a substitute teacher not really knowing what I was getting myself into I began to form relationships with full time teachers in order to be able to deliver the materials to the students. Being able to connect with these professional educators through groups on Facebook, LinkedIn and currently being in Class 5305 Disruptive Innovation has been a great help in making my decision to move forward with the educational field. Thinking back, I have had an amazing experience connecting with members of these current learning communities. You learn so much more when you listen….sometimes well most of the time when you hear someone else you can they can help you push your ideas forward. At first I was so nervous when choosing to go back to school then I really shocked myself when I decided to take 4 classes online at that. Forming groups within my classes with other colleagues have been a true blessing. My group is amazing and have been truly helpful with getting me all caught up when i miss class due to work overload and always asking what can we do to help. I Am truly grateful…… References Wabisabi Learning. (n.d.). - Progressive Education 5305
As I sit back and listen to the video I being to realize as well as recognize that some of the ongoing issues that we are facing today in the educational field are some of the same issues that they were facing in the 1940’s. Parents bring their students to school to let you as the teacher become their main source of learning as well as preparing them for life not only in school but in the child’s daily life outside of school as well. One of the reasons I believe we have yet to see a significant change in education is due to those in charge of the educational system. Those who are in charge seems to have a fixed mindset. As times change the educational system makes sure to follow and keep up with those changes but when it comes to traditional learning and online learning there is a huge conflict on how the students should be taught. Most like the traditional way of learning because students can participate in group activities, interact with other children so they learn how to be social and of course see the instructor face to face were as in online learning well its done on a computer, online, all group activities will be online no face to face interaction. Facing the worlds pandemic showed us that online learning is needed just as much as face to face learning. Once those who are in charge of the educational system realize this school life will be so much better not just for the students, but their parents and teachers
- Disruptive Learning 5305
When is comes to disruptive innovation change is important because it gives you a broader outlook on things you have yet to encounter. Its something new and most of the time when something is new, we tend to focus our attention of whatever is new and more advance than the previous thing that we have already had a chance to experience. Far as changing the educational system we honestly just need a brand-new system. Since graduating high school and moving on to college Ive realized that the full educational system here in Texas is some bull. These standardized tests are the worst and does absolutely nothing for our students but keep them in a fixed mindset especially those who are not good at taking test. Disruptive Innovation creates a new educational outlook in the many different way’s students can learn. Disruptive Innovation is important because it allows each student to learn at their own pace. Being that no one is alike everyone has their own way how they want to learn, and disruptive innovation gives them unlimited freedom in doing so. Disruptive innovation came from being able to transition from old ways to new ways things that were impossible at first have now become possible for everyone not just some. Disruptive Innovation can be a major change in education, and I say this because in education we’ve been stuck in the same place for some time sort of like in a fixed mind set and not moving along with technology as it comes out. Which is an even worser look on our students. In person learning is good but the eye opener came with the 2020 pandemic that swept through our nation and caused the education system to be overwhelmed with the new replacing the old but the students did not know how to transition. In my opinion the reason blended learning is so emphasized when it comes to technology is because blended learning is a blend of in person learning as well as online learning which technology comes in a plays a major role between the two. A few opportunities for innovation in education includes: --Change in mind set, your mind has to be clear to understand. --- Creating flexible learning environments, since most children come form unfit homes its our job as an educator to create a safe learning environment for our students since their most likely not getting it at home ---- Creating a place for all learners to be able to learn. Not afraid to ask questions because no question is a dumb question.
- Learning Manifesto 5302
Our school system is cruypt and in all honesty it is keeping our students/children crippled by keeping them in a fixed mindset. Not giving our children the ability to suceed and not only by being sucessful at school but in their daily life. Being a parent/educator has allowed my eyes to be able to see both sides and its not pretty either way. Both parties have is rather hard. But if we work as a team we can overpower the educational system all together while helping our children let their voice be heard.
