Concepts Of Educational Technology 5302 Learning Manifesto Growth Mindset Plan: September 12, 2021 Eddricka King Houston ISD Associate Teacher Atten: Student Development & Learning Center of HISD Today I am reaching out as a concern for our current and future students within our school district. It has come to my attention that the majority of our students are stuck with having a fixed mindset and it is causing them not to be as productive as they should be while here at Houston Elementary. This proposal was created in regards to helping current and future students in our school district become better learners while helping to develop their minds in a positive way and implementing the growth mindset in each child. The purpose for this new proposal is to get everyone one board when it comes to helping our students be the best they can be in all that they do whether it's in school, at home, or life in general. In order to mak]e sure our students get on the right track and stay on the right track we will need everyone to get involved and on board such as the teachers, parents, and most importantly the students who are also the targeted audience for this our Growth Mindset Plan Proposal. It will take all of us to make sure the plan works accordingly so that every student can and will be successful in the evening during tough times. Implementing a growth mindset is important because it gives you as the educator an opportunity to change how the student can take something that was negative and turn it into something positive by incorporating the four steps to changing a fixed mindset. These four steps not only can help our students but our teachers as well by giving them the extra help in areas that can and will clog the mind causing the brain to shut down because you felt it was too hard so you stopped trying. Learn to recognize your fixed mindset voice, Recognize that you have a choice, Talk back to that voice with a growth mindset, Take the growth mindset action. Following these four simple steps will help anyone that has a fixed mindset transfer their mindset into a growth mindset which are actions required to have a successful outcome when it comes to helping getting to a growth mindset. A push that is needed to help you as an individual move forward within your educational studies or daily life routines. Currently I am an Associate Teacher with a full class 3rd grade classroom. Since being in the class I have gotten a chance to get to know each one of the students. No child is alike, they all have different personalities, and different ways on how they retrieve information. During read out loud time I have each student read one to three lines just to see how they read. When other students try to make fun of the student who is having trouble I simply let them know it's not fun to try and make fun of someone who is willing and ready to learn instead of laughing at them and helping them say the words instead. Beating someone down while they have the will to learn and ready to learn can cause any person to shut down regardless of their age. This is how I get my students to understand the power of yet. Just because someone doesn't have in at this moment doesn't mean they won't get it, it's just not their time yet but when that time comes they will be ready and will recognize that in due time. In conclusion, I feel that as an Associate Teacher within the district that we should as a team get this proposal pushed not only for us as educators but for our students and their parents to switch over from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset and it will overall change the way we think. Thank you for your time. Sincerely Eddricka King Contrubition to my learning First enrolling in school I made sure I came in with an open mindset,,,having an open mindset has allowed me to be able to explore and research more on the subject in which I am studying. Being in this program have given me insight on what ADL really is and how it applies to our current educational system and how important it is when coming to learning. Being able to collaborate with fellow colleagues has been a major and very helpful part of my current learning experience. I have gotten a chance to be apart of an amazing group of other educators who are so passionate about being able to help education become a better learning environment for our students and that alone has been a great experience. Creating my eportfolio for Class 5302 Concepts of Education has truly been an eye-opener and has allowed me to incorporate the use of COVA without evening knowing what COVA really meant. COVA stands for Choice, Ownership, Voice, and Authentic. With my online portfolio I have had the Choice to create an online site that i have complete ownership of, a place i have created to go and have a voice, a place I can share my ideas and not having to worry about being talked about for how i feel or think because guess what these are my thoughts my digital voice, This portfolio is raw footage from the one and only which makes it authentic. Having this online portfolio plays a major role in my current grad program and by the look of all upcoming classes I am going to continue need, use, and build my portfolio. Most valuable lesson I have learned thus far in my studies is to not take for granted what I can and can't do. Just keep putting my best foot forward. With not giving up because yes it was a challenge BUT I was able to create my own eportfolio, I also learned how to make a video, post it to YouTube, add pictures and links, things I would rather let a professional do. But with me choosing this field I put aside my fears stayed up and figured it out and when i was done i was so proud of myself. 19 hours ago 3 min ADL Journey/How far have you come? Resources Digital Environments Course 5317 Hello and welcome to course 5317, we are still in the Fall semester and will continue building this website geared towards helping students transition from face to face learning to blended learning. This course will help and encourage students to want to read and enjoy doing it. Stay tuned I have more to share!!!!! We just cant get enough or even live without technology. Technology has become so beneficial to our contionus changing world and environment. In course 5317, Resources Digital Environment I learned a new process that involved writting a publication, collobarating with group members (Mrs. Veronica Goodly), and trying to get the publication published online. As you continue to get a view of what I have accomplished while taking course 5317 here is a brief overview. Being that education is very important to educators I have decided to create an Innovation Plan that will not only benefit our students but their teachers and parents as well. I have written a publication not yet published entitled I mplementing Blended Learning with Small Group Rotation to promote learning abilities while giving you all the Tea!!! While on this road to success I was able to collobrate with fellow classmate Mrs. Veronica Goodly where we were able to give one another our honest opinions and feedback on our publications through a group peer review . We were also able to create a brief video on fun tools and apps that can be used while in a blended learning classroom as well a classroom thats just starting to implenment blended learning into their classroom. As you continue to scroll you will run into the outline created, rough draft, brief video description video, and refrences to follow. Enjoy!!!! Media Project By Mrs. Goodly and Ms. King Here you will find a video podcast of how important it is to not only teachers but students and parents as well on how the use of digital learning in our current learning curriculm is boosting the students learning ability. Seat back, enjoy and leave feedback Publication Final Draft Here's the Final results click link below to check them out Contribution to My Learning and Learning Community This semester went by pretty fast, every assignment seemed to have come and gone and come again. Every weekend I believe I had something due, but it was ok because it kept me on my toes which caused me to want to learn more. Upon actually getting into Course 5317, Resource Digital Environments, I looked over the syllabus and had no clue how I was going to get it all done especially since I don’t know too much about technology but, I shocked my own self at the results I’ve come up with. Dr. Still did an amazing job teaching this course. I really enjoyed this course to the fullest and got a chance to collaborate with new colleagues since the others I had have since graduated. This semester Dr. Still tried to make it easy by splitting the class up in groups so that we could collaborate, but it didn’t work out like that. I made several attempts to reach out to the colleagues in my group and even put my phone number on the classroom discussion board and only got one person from the group to reach out and we just went from there and started our own little duo which turned out to be perfect. This duo included Mrs. Veronica Goodly and myself, even though I got the group started Mrs. Goodly kept us organized especially when it came to our meetings. Even though we had such aa small group will still managed to get things done and work submit. On most meeting nights which were held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturdays via zoom, email, voice, and text. Our meeting would start at 8PM and end at 10PM something going over but, we didn’t care, all we cared about was making sure to get all work completed and turned in in a timely manner. Our talks and discussion were never boring and always went off track but quickly got back on. Overall, to have only a few members I must say we did an amazing job and will continue to as we complete our ADL Master’s program here at Lamar. For me course 5317 was very unique because I had to interact more with technology, no I’m not too fond of it because it’s a lot that goes along with it. One click of the button and the whole computer can shut off so when it comes to being tech savvy, I’m not it but I do try and that’s what keeps me going. This class went side by side with how I am trying to get my students able to get transitioned into blended learning environments within their small group rotation time in class. It has been a pretty rough transition, but we are holding and hanging on to the real reason and that’s making sure our students are on top of their studies through these new and different learning tools that will allow them to expand their learning ability. For Course 5317 I rate myself 96/100. Even though all components were met I had a little bump in the road where I gotten sick from my students at the job and was down a few days causing me to not submit my outline on time. Soon as I could I reached out to Dr. Still, who understood the situation and I turned my late assignment in and continued working on my other assignments. The discussions this semester not only helped me build my publication but also helped me learn new resources that I can take back to my own classroom. Reference Page (2022). Assessing Digital Learning and Instruction Course 5315 Welcome to my 7th course of my Master's Program here at Lamar. I am still getting this page together so feel free to look around. What is Action Research? My action research plan will be based on implenmenting blended learning into 3rd grade reading classrooms. The Literature Review will list and cite different sources that will investigate the benefits of adding blended learning to HISD current school enrichement programs for 3rd grade reading classes and how it will benefit those students. Action Research Outline What is the topic of your action research? I have chosen to research a topic that holds a place in my heart and is relevant to why I have chosen to continue my career in the educational field. The topic I’m planning to research is how to implement blended learning into a traditional face-to-face classroom within low-income school districts while showing how having blended learning will better help and motivate students when it comes to learning in a new way while increasing their learning abilities READ MORE ABOUT MY ACTION RESEARCH... CHANGE IS SOMETHING WE ALL NEED Action Research LITERATURE REVIEW From the looks of things and for the past 2 years we as Americans have been trying to cope with our new way of living in a world after having to deal with a major crisis such as the 2019 Covid Pandemic. During the pandemic schools had to be shut down and students had to transition from face-to-face learning to online learning. The transition was not an easy task and caused a lot of mayhem within our school system. Students were not getting the proper benefits they needed in order to maintain their educational status which caused grades to drop significantly. “More than half (53 percent) of 10-year-old children in low- and middle-income countries either had failed to learn to read with comprehension or were out of school entirely” (Azevedo, 2022). This literature review will explore the definition of blended learning, the benefits, and barriers of adding blended learning to classrooms, and how blended learning can be used as a tool to increase reading levels within elementary schools. READ MORE ABOUT MY REVIEW BY CLICKING HERE AN ACTION RESEARCH PLAN Exploring Blended Learning Action Research Plan Exploring Blended learning in 3rd grade Reading Classes: An Action Research Plan I have chosen a research topic that I took interest in after becoming a substitute teacher in a low-income based school district. I hold this subject dear to my heart especially after coming in contact with so many students that didn’t even know how to properly turn on a computer device. Implementing blended learning in 3rd grade reading classrooms will not only build each student's confidence but will give them the opportunity to obtain choice, ownership, and vo9ce through authentic learning. For this action research plan, I’ve decided to use both qualitative and quantitative as evidence to support data collected which will include how having blended learning will create positive impacts on the way students read. The data collected will also be used to help current and future substitutes to continue encouraging and supporting students and their families. Help promoting better reading habits Contribution to my learning This summer semester snuck up on me and surprised me being that Spring classes had just ended. I honestly thought that I was free as a bird, and I would be enrolled during the Fall term but that was not the case. I was enrolled in class, had started right away, and plus I had no money for class, but I pushed forward. I soon realized that this was a degree that I wanted to get, and I had to do what I needed to do. I picked my head up, dropped one class, got on a plan, and got it done. I am so glad I was able to be a part of course 5315 because it’s the last course I got to have with half of my colleagues I started this program with because they are graduating this semester. For this semester I had to hit the ground running with buying books and supplies needed for the course and jumped on my modules right away. This summer my community learning group included James, Monika, Maria, and Myself. This course was bittersweet because these 3 are leaving me and graduating so I wanted to soak up as much information as a could before they left. We didn’t meet as much like we have done in the past through zoom and google but honestly I was ok with that because life has been busy and it's so simple just to send a text rather than an email plus everything gets to you right away through text so that was our main source of communication ohhhh but when we did meet through zoom around 6pm we would meet for over an hour and trust me it was on and popping all questions asked via test was answered along with other areas, we felt we were having trouble with, eportfolio were shared so we could look over and see what needed to be fixed and fix them. This semester was basically tying everything together and seeing how it all worked. Looking back when our group was first formed, we didn’t know anything, but we worked together to make it work for us. Fast-forward till now things just roll off our tongues, we are more knowledgeable about digital learning and how everything fits together honestly, we have grown. I am so glad I was given the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing group of individuals. During these last 8 weeks I was able to assist my team by giving honest feedback and feedback towards their portfolio. Keeping up with our meetings and notes, adding them to our google reference page that all team members have access to. I really enjoyed course 5315 this semester. It went by so smoothly, everything was so straight forward, and I am very appreciative for being able to take this course with some amazing individuals who were very helpful throughout the entire semester which made the class even more exciting to learn more. Overall, this semester I am once again so proud of myself and I grade myself for courses 5315 and 90. Even though all components were met I still ran into a few hiccups where I didn’t put my references in alphabetical order, nor did I have something in the APA format making simple mistakes. I was so upset at myself but after receiving feedback from Dr. I was able to perk up and correct what was wrong right away by submitting the errors and making corrections. At this point no I shouldn’t be making these kinds of errors, I did and most importantly I took the feedback and fixed the issue right away. Even though I know once grades are submitted that’s that I still took it upon myself to make sure I did what I needed to do while keeping in mind that there’s always room for improvement, change and growth and that’s what I intend to keep doing putting my best foot forward, taking feedback and keeping the faith through the rest of the process. As Dr. He said in the introduction video “Just trust the process' ' and I definitely will. 5315 Class Discussion Blog ADL Journey/How far have you come? Developing Effective Professional Learning 5389 https://www.etr.org /about-us/our-projects/dash-plc/ Professional Learing Strategy Over the course of obtaining my master’s degree I have had the chance to learn about Professional Learning (PL) and Professional Development (PD). Both PL and PD are major for those who work in the educational field, and it is very important that educators receive this form of ongoing training in this area since there is always something new when it comes to our educational systems and us as teachers need to stay ahead of the game when it comes to educating our learners (students). During the duration of my time, I have learned about the 5 Key principals of PL while putting together a professional learning plan my organization can adopt to by engaging and encouraging them on what needs to be Called to Action in order to start implementing change through our current school system. Yes, there needs to be a change, and this is a good place to start. My Professional Development Plan targets Educators who need extra training when it comes to adding blended learning to our now curriculum and allowing it to work in our favor when it comes to making sure our students are successful both in and out of class. By this plan being something that I not only need but other teaching professionals as well. I will be in charge of leading majority of the section for the implantation plan but also with the help of other colleagues that would like to see change, and a few members of the technology team. When it comes to fostering collaboration and being effective thorough out my Innovation plan, I will be able to build healthy relationships, establishing goals that are meaningful, staying positive through out the process, as well as keeping my team member encouraged. Going to school as an adult is stressful enough. Imagine being a child trying to maintain without direction…Scary huh! Not having proper guidance can cause one to give up but as a self-directed learning you will be able to gain confidence, obtain problem-solving skills, while gaining other skills in the process within a stress-free environment allowing one to improve the skills learned and adding to what you already know. That’s why it is so important in my opinion why blended learning needs to be added to the entire educational system it should be mandatory. Objective: Teachers will learn how to implement blended learning into current curriculum which, will allow teachers to be able to teach multiple subjects with authentic learning. Participants: All grade level teachers Students Wrap around Specialist Tech support staff Principals Resources: Computer Lab Personal Computer/ Laptop Innovation Plan Call to Action School funding department (to be able to supply low- income students with computers with build in hotspot and Wi-Fi 5 Key Principals of Effective Professional Learning PD must be Significant and Ongoing Which allows time for teachers to learn new strategies. PD must provide Ongoing support , for teachers during the implementation stage when faced with new challenges within the changing classroom. PD must Engage , teachers so they can actively participate and make sense of the new practice. PD must include Modeling Skills , while being able to observe teachers. This method allows teachers to get a clear understanding of the new practices. Letting the teacher become the student and receiving hands on training, participating in learning communities with 2-3 participants (Walk and Talk method). Lastly PD must be Specific to discipline , Content specific, Authentic learning. Real time results Developing Effective Professional Learning 5389: Text The What THe WHy The first time I attended a Professional Development Session it was so boring that I ended up falling asleep and not learning about anything that I was there to learn. The session lasted for five hours with no interaction with the audience so how could they know if I was paying attention or not. The room itself was a large auditorium that held over 100 plus people who held their ow conversation not pertaining to what the speaker was saying. Once the session was over everyone was handed a goodie back with chips, water, and pamphlets that we could use after but mine never made it home because once I ate those chips and washed them down with water, I put the trash in the thank you bag and threw it all away. Which is a huge example of WHY PD needs a major upgrade. The upgrade should require more on-going support to make teachers feel more comfortable, confident, and important when learning new strategies to better their classroom as well as keeping teachers engaged by attending workshops that allow you to receive hands-on training, and small group activities which will keep them woke and more beneficial The HOw Before creating this presentation, I sat down and wrote out a list of possible ideas I could use to present my presentation. Making sure to keep in mind that I must get to the point I’m trying to make while keeping my audience interested in what I have to say. The information I’ve added to my presentation is very helpful when it comes to helping our educational system move forward by helping the ones that means the most…..THE TEAHCERS. Information provided will help in shifting from what is wrong to how we can fix the problem. It was indeed a challenge being that I haven’t had to create a PowerPoint in a long time. Nor how to record my voice. It took me forever, but YouTube played a major role when it came to adding music to my presentation, to me just needing help on how to upload and export my PowerPoint. I looked up so many FREE websites to create a PowerPoint from Prexi, Canva, Google docs, Zoho, and ended up using Microsoft which was still a challenge because I really had to teach myself. I choose to go with a colorful background something that will catch the eye because it caught mine. I’m really proud of myself and how far I pushed myself in order to have a great outcome (My presentation). Looking over the supplemental videos pertaining to “How to tell a story” By Nancy Duarte and “How to avoid death by PowerPoint” by David JP Phillips were very great pointers on how to tell a story without going overboard and the traps you could face while creating a PowerPoint it is a lot and some of the things mention I still ran into them while trying to avoid them. This was a learning experience I enjoyed from starting over to actually finishing this is one mini goal I have now completed while learning in the process. Understanding By Design Click Here For my UbD Templete Click Here For my BHAG & 3-Column Table Professional Devedlopment Outline In the following course of Professional Learning and Development we will target Administrators and Teachers who need extra help with getting students transitioned from traditional learning to blended learning. This course will use BHAG and Fink’s 3 Column table as the instructional design. Since we are transitioning from traditional learning to blended learning this course will include face to face training as well as online training. The course will run on a 5 ½ -week program starting in the Spring Semester. Learners will meet 3 weeks in person, 2 weeks of course online and ½ week wrapping thing up. This will give the learners the opportunity to have one on one training with the instructor and form learning communities where they can help one another when the instructor is unable to assist. Technology Specialist will be the lead Instructor for this program with the help of several teachers who have already been trained for the new program being introduced. Learners will collaborate through their learning communities, giving them the opportunity to share their ideas and what they have learned. Learners will meet with their group members every other week (Wednesday) through zoom meetings at 6pm. The type of resources the learners will need will include personal device such as cell phone or personal computer for online and face-to-face learning, download zoom app to device, USB drive to save work, excellent internet connection, notebook to take notes. The impact I’m looking to make is to have all Administrators and teachers onboard with implementing Blended Learning into current curriculum. Making sure they get the correct training in order to make the transition easy as possible for the students. TimeLine of 5 ½ -week training course: The Beginning: Post Covid-19 Students only knew face to face learning. Last semester almost took me out, so this go round I decided to start early gathering my information and getting ahead on my readings. Even with trying to read ahead I still up being behind, and this is something that I have to continue working on. My courses consisted of 5313 Creating Significant Learning environments and 5389 Developing Effective Professional Learning. I can honestly say with the readings and videos presented though out the classes really helped me within both courses. It was a little tough because assignments that were due for 5389, I had to complete 5313 assignments first to even understand what was going on in 5389. Taking these two classes was a challenge when it came to that but if I have to say so myself I did pretty good with going back and forward. This go round my community learning group got split up meaning two of the members were in one course 5313 and the other three were in course 5389. I was very fortunate to still be apart of both groups because here is where I got the most help and help that I really needed because I was indeed confused. 5389 Learning community group consisted of four members Monika, James, Maria, and Myself. We held our weekly meetings on Thursdays at 7pm on zoom. Our meetings would go for an hour sometimes longer either way we had a great meeting every time. Our weekly meetings were on point we made sure to stay on top of our game. We all shared duties with keeping the group going. Keeping in touch through personal emails and via text. If I have to say so myself, I really enjoyed our group it was small but well organized and put together and we got the job done. Even though we’ve been connected since beginning our ADL program we’ve grown so much and was sad that Ms. Elda and Ericka were no longer in our group, but we managed. This semester I really had to push myself forward due to many hardships, but I stayed focused and kept going. I tried my hardest to submit all assignments as well as discussions on time along with responding to other members in my class. Even when I caught the flu this semester which almost took me out, I still survived. Overall, this semester I am truly proud of myself, and I grade myself for course 5389 a 90 I gave myself this score because this semester I didn’t come to play. I learned from last semester that I had to give it my all. I was able to communicate effectively and regularly, give feedback when needed. I turned in one assignment late and pass the due date even though Dr. B still took it after the due date due to me having the flu but, from this I’ve learned to try to get my work completed before time because waiting to the last minute is definitely not it. I’ve really enjoyed this course and have learned so much more that I can take away. I’m forever grateful for the things I can learn and take back with me to teach the students I come in contact with. 19 hours ago 3 min ADL Journey/How far have you come?
