  • Learning new things Discussion 1 (5317)

The videos provided for this week’s discussion were very eye opening and something I feel all educators need to hear. The first video presented by Dr. Sugata Mitra was very interesting with so many resources available you start to wonder what the future will be like when it comes to education and how the students will learn. Every day we as educators are learning something new and we of course have to stay on top of all of the new technology so that we can teach our students so they can begin to teach other students within their own learning communities (School) soon to be or if not already blended learning. The second video about creating and drawing your own future hit home for me and is just what I need to give me some motivation and realize that the things we speak and create for ourselves can come true if we put our good foot forward and change the way we look and do things, things well be better for us as learners and educators. • Getting to know me....

Hello again!!! My name is Eddricka (Dricka for short) I am currently a substitute teacher in the Houston area. My favorite hobbies are reading, finding new restaurants that I haven’t tried and my new adventure traveling. When it comes to my personal experience with education, I am currently a 1st grade substitute teacher last semester I was with 3rd grade personally I feel the school system is all messed up and need more structure for the student’s learning environment. It’s not going to happen overnight, but something has to be done and hopefully a team of new school educators can get involved and get it done. If you haven’t already check out my eportfolio all feedback is welcome. If you are still looking to join a learning community, we have room in the group.

  • Introduction to course 5317

Hello everyone!!! I’m Eddricka ( Dricka) for short. This is my second to last semester here at Lamar in the ADL program. I’m super excited to be almost done and truly proud that I have continued to strive to be better in my studies no, it has not been an easy process but I’m hanging in there. Currently I am a substitute teacher in the Houston area. There is such a shortage of teachers that I have been thrown in a classroom with little to know help it’s really sad, but I will not let that stop me from being the best Sub I can be for how ever long they will have me. Just like all the other courses I’m coming into course 5317 with an open mind and plan on leaving with my mind and brain cells pumping with new information I’ve learned over the next 5weeks. I’m super excited and ready to jump in. I just got of course 5318 so my brain is still pumping and ready for more. Viee my site take a look around and give me some feedback.

  • Contribution to my Learning

Course 5318 Grade 96/100 Just like last semester this school year caught me off guard with so much going on in my out of school life I thought I would get somewhat of a break but that was a lie, and the truth was no where to be found. After pulling myself together I came to grips that I’m still a college student and in order to graduate I must first go through and pass all courses needed for graduation. This semester I’m taking 1 course. I have realized in the past that 1 course is better for me to be able to focus a little better. Going into this course I semi knew what was coming but didn’t know it would be me having to create and present my own online course. It was indeed a challenge but with the help of my learning community and watching videos from YouTube University I was able to put my fears aside and get the job done. I went through many websites and tutorials to see which source would be more beneficial. Going over with my group members and receiving feedback and feedforward from them made me want to push harder and aim higher and I did just that. In creating this course, I learned so many new techniques that are making my course better as time continues to go on. Just like Dr.H, said many semesters ago “you must trust the process”. This semester I was a little nervous at first to join a new learning community, but I believe I was led to this group of women for a reason, and I appreciate them dearly for allowing me to be a part of something so magnificent. Group member included Lorena Guzman, Brandy Dinkins, Christine Glenn, Jenny Howard, and my self Eddricka King aka (Dricka King) according to GroupMe lol. Once a week we got together on Wednesday at 7pm via Zoom and had group meeting just going over weekly assignment, discussions to make sure we were headed in the right direction. Our daily meetings were done via GroupMe just in case anything was missed during our online meet. I am very proud to say I got rid of my nervousness and got down to business once again every semester I try to better than the last. I got off to a rocky start but the ending results and with the help of my group members guiding me along the way I was able to once again succeed plus I don’t look like what I’ve been through, and I am grateful for that. For course 5318 I rate myself 96/100 Even though all components were met I still ran into a one hiccup where I forgot to add my references to my websites what a simple mistake. This mistake was caught by Lorena Guzman I am so glad she had time to look over my site and give me this feedback and right on time too so grateful. If I can’t put my best foot forward, I don’t want to put any foot forward at all. This semester was amazing I’m super excited for the next course.

  • As course 5318 comes to an end!!!!

This semester kicked me in the butt from me going to school, being a parent, dealing with daily bull crap, then being thrown in a postion with little to no help from the school but what can I say that's life and we as people go through so many ups and downs and just trying to keep us afloat. I had to fight daily to not give up on my studies and I am so proud at how far I have come. Cant wait to share the remaining assignment when its complete.

  • Usability Testing Module 3 Discussion

For my usability testing study, it will last 5weeks since the course is a 5-week course. The criterion for my students is very simple and have to be since my students are only in the 3rd grade. While taking this course the students will be able to engage in blended learning while transitioning to a flipped classroom, participate in online activities, assignments, being able to interact with peers. Overall getting the hang of blended learning since the entire district will be making the transition from face- to- face learning to online learning. When it comes to being able to navigate through the course the setup is simple and filled with how-to videos so that the learners can go back if they missed anything from the lesson which will give them the opportunity to review before any test or assignment is due which should leave the students feeling confident about moving forward because they can go back as many times as needed in order to grasp the information. This is a course getting all 3rd grade reading classes prepared for the transition. For the survey I plan to have 3 of my colleagues and 3 students to participate in a 15–30-minute survey given through the platform (JotForm) that will be located on my eportfolio. The survey results will be through observation and evaluation responses. If a problem is to occur my alternate plan will be done in written form and results will be calculated at the end. My site is not yet complete but will be bye the time this course is over. So stay tuned for more!!!!

  • Putting it all together (5318)

This course is giving me a run for the money. I have learned so much for the class based on youtube videos and how to if it wasnt for youtube I would be able to complete half of my assignments dealing with adding videos and all of that. This go round I did do a little more research and found a better tool when it comes to recording my videos and I must say I am very empressed with what I have created and the voice sounds so good with no interuptions. I was so excited I had to make a post about how proud of me I am. Hell i didnt think I would submit the assignment in ontime but I did and boy was it crazy adding modules and then having to put it all together. i am wore out but I know I can get it done and thats all that matter ti me

  • Implementation of Design Module 2 Discussion 2

The course I am creating is a course designed for 3rd grade RLA students, the course targets students who have trouble with reading. The LMS that I will be using will be Google classroom because it’s easier to use and will allow the students to navigate through the slides better. Once the transition is complete with just getting the student to this point, we will then make the transfer to canvas when it becomes available for the students to transition. The course will be student centered but led by the teacher, giving students control over their learning and learning ability. The Overview, Introduction, and Start Here will include the outline of the course, instructor introduction, how to videos of how the course will work giving the student and their parents a breakdown of how everything will go and what I as the instructor will expect from the learners. Each module will include videos of each lesson, discussions, quizzes, assignments, and group participation where students can learn from their peers which is a good resource for the students to get to know one another. All lessons will be centered around TEKS allowing the students to become familiar with what will be on the test. This course will be broken down into 5 weeks of learning, each week will be different but before moving on to the next week their will be a quiz put in place for the students to go over what they know, what they have learned, and what can be done to make it easier for them to understand. The ultimate goal is to get 3rd grade reading students back on a track with reading and being able to pass the Teks reading portions.

  • Just another post

What a month it has been with being in school and teaching at a school has been tough. I feel like I'm just going in circles and then boom!!! I make it out. I am very greatful for an opportunity to make a difference in any children's lives but thes children are different my God I dont remember kids being like this. I know the pandemic messed up alot of things for adults and children and it shows not only are the adults buck wild the kids are apart of the wild wild west its wild out here for alot of old teachers and current teachers. It needs to be some form of change...... I know change happen over time but something needs to happen within this school district.

  • I don got excited.......

It's been a long time coming after losing majority of my learning community group I reached out to a member of course 5318 and she added me to her group. I am thrilled to be back and apart of a learning community where I can share ideas, get feedback, and give feedforward. I'm so thrilled here I am writting a post. Thinking back to when Dr. H said "that after a while you'll think of something exciting and start posting in your blog" and HERE I AM LOL

  • Nothin can stop me I'm all th way UP!!!!!! Fall 2022

School has just started and not only am I trying to catch up on all my homework assignments but my students assignments as well. I must say I wasn't prepared to go into a classroom and be a full-time 3rd grade teacher while being in school myself. It has been a little rough but after speaking with a few collegueas and over looking obsticles that I thought could take me out and looked at the postiveness in it all Ive come to the conclusion that I can do all things that strengthens me. Keeping the faith in all of this is what is holding me together. No matter how things are looking right now I do know God will not put more on me than I can bare and I know someone will come along and assist me in what ever it is I need in order to be the best teacher I can be since it is my first year in the field as a real teacher.
